An Afternoon at Grand Avenue Pub in Beloit
A Grand Afternoon!
Now that the deep freeze has lifted my husband and I decided it was time to get out of the house! I love great food, especially a little spicy food! And wine. And a good game of pool. And did I say wine?! We grabbed our neighbor friends and headed down to check out the new Grand Avenue Pub for lunch and a game of pool, or two!
Great First Impression
I love anything old so what a treat walking into exposed brick walls and gorgeous wood floors. The Blues are playing. A number of large flat screens surround the bar area. And all around on those gorgeous brick walls are images of Beloit, back in the day. Old pictures of Grand Avenue buildings and one amazing shot of the old ski jump at Big Hill Park, probably taken in the 1950’s sometime. Wow! Check out the vintage cars in that picture! Sidra greets us and patiently waits for us to decide where we want to sit! There are so many choices! The private tall table “booths” against the exposed brick wall are so inviting!
Our waitress Sidra told us one of the specials for the day was the Spicy Peanut Chicken Wrap. I wasn’t sure exactly what “spicy peanut” was but I decided to go for it! It totally lived up to it’s name! It’s a good thing my glass of water and wine were very close by! I love spicy and if you love spicy too you will LOVE this wrap! My husband chose the Reuben…he’s so predictable! There’s everything from burgers and BLT’s to salads and desserts too! Oh, and the fries! If you love salty fries, you have come to the right place. No need to salt these little guys! And they’re served in the cutest (yes, cutest!) little fry basket you’ve ever seen! I seriously have got to find out where I can get one of those! They’re adorable!
It’s All About Beer
Our bartender Taryn was gracious enough to show me their extensive supply of bottled beers. No tap beer here my friends, only the best bottled from all over our great state and beyond. One young man commented that in the entire downtown area, ONLY here, at the Grand Avenue Pub, can you get a Sam Adams! Sam Adams lovers, come on down!
Chef Jarrod Came to Town
Chef Jarrod comes to the Grand Avenue Pub from Florida and is making quite a name for himself right here in Beloit! He gave me a glimpse of his kitchen while he cooked us up one of his favorites, the Seared Ahi Tuna appetizer. Oh my goodness! Absolutely delicious…and there was some green spicy sauce for dipping that was out of this world! I have no idea what it was but it was GRAND! Chef Jarrod says he has quite a love for seafood and is bringing only the best from Hawaii, California and the East coast to the pub, as well as some good ole Wisconsin beef! Wine, pool and Ahi Tuna…yes indeed they do go together well!
We Will be Back!
Thank you Sidra, Taryn and Jerrod for a GRAND Saturday afternoon! We’ll be back for dinner!
