Farmers' Market Adventure -

Farmers’ Market Adventure

When asked to go to the Farmers’ Market with $15 and purchase items for a meal and then write about my experience, I was a bit perplexed and worried.  I had never shopped at the Farmers’ Market or ever prepared a meal for me or my family before.

Amazing and Fresh

Once at the Farmers’ Market I was surprised to see that there were so many people in our community selling their produce and goods that they had grown in greenhouses or in an outdoor garden.  I have to admit that the produce and food that was there was amazing and fresh.

Getting Inspired

…inspire you to prepare a meal you have not thought of before

My best suggestion when going to the Farmers’ Market is that you look for the best deals. Once you are at the market I am sure you will find, as I did, that a food item or great looking produce might inspire you to prepare a meal you have not thought of before.  Just remember and consider that when you are getting locally-grown, fresh food you may pay a little more money than in a grocery store.

My Choice… Chicken Veggie Teriyaki

The ingredients that I purchased and selected were fresh zucchini, green and red bell peppers, sweet peas, a bulb of garlic, carrots and onions. So, what did I make?  A chicken veggie teriyaki, of course!  To prepare this meal it takes about 30 to 45 minutes.  Most of the time is spent cleaning and prepping the vegetables.  This meal will serve between two to six people depending on how hungry everyone is – and there are usually leftovers for another meal.

Yeah, I’ll be back

The overall experience from being at the Farmers’ Market, selecting and purchasing fresh product to creating a meal for my family was really amazing.  I  plan to keep going to the Farmers’ Market every weekend.  I know there will be new and unique items to purchase.  The Farmers’ Market is every Saturday from 8am to 1pm.

Once everything is cooked, place rice on a plate or in a bowl with all the ingredients and have a good meal.  Enjoy!

I have lived in Beloit all of my life and enjoy every day that I spend in Beloit. Thrughout my progression in the field of Hospitality at Beloit Memorial High School, I have found that there are so many great things that you can do in this industry, such as owning a business or managing a restaurant. I’m looking forward to this opportunity.
