Super Heroes Trick or Treat at the Fairfield Inn and Suites -
“What’s all the fuss about Halloween and Trick or Treat anyway?” you may ask. Kids come to the door dressed in a variety of costumes, all shouting those famous words, “Trick or Treat!” Working at Visit Beloit is always a treat (pardon the pun) and it always offers new adventures. This year I had the greatest Halloween experience. Each year, the Fairfield Inn and Suites offers a very special Halloween trick or treat to the children in our community with special needs. You would not believe the extreme work they put into this event with incredible decorations and scary mazes in all areas of the hotel first floor. Each year, they do a different theme. This year, they had snakes and goblins in the swimming pool! WOW!
Visit Beloit always sponsors a room decorated for this festive occasion. Usually this project is Tara Dunn’s baby, but this year she was out on leave so I volunteered to head up the assignment. Halloween is not my thing, so I enlisted Nicki Meyer with Friends of RiverFront for her creativity. She came up with this great idea for a theme: each one of these kids and their parents are super heroes for all they must endure on a daily basis. With that, we were off and running! After all, super heroes are everywhere and decorations are easy to find. Okay, not easy, but it was fun! We added special touches like glow sticks, Superman photo op and customized stickers for kids and parents. Oh and of course, we had lots of candy! We were a popular room.
Watching those kids faces and playfulness was just amazing and oh, what an inspiration to me as I counted my blessings. One of the last kids to come in was Zane and his mom. What an awesome kid. Zane had that playfulness and charm that captured all of us on the Visit Beloit team. We just had to take advantage of this photo opp. He was not just dressed as a super hero; he is a Super Hero! Zane taught me something that night which I will never forget. No matter what your situation, you can be happy. You don’t have to look far to see someone a whole lot worse off than you. Thanks Zane!
Thanks Nicki Meyer, for all your help and ideas, thanks to Matt Bosen, Tara Dunn (she is now back to work, yeah!) and Linda Ross for helping as well.
Tara, I hope did you proud, but I’m giving you back your baby!
Kudos to the Fairfield Inn and Suites for offering this great opportunity to these kids and their parents in our community. Thanks for your efforts to make our community a better place to live, work, play and visit. I just love living and working in this community.
